Hey, you can leave this one on read if you have to
I just needed a medium for these thoughts - a void like you
I've been thinking about a place that felt a lot like a girl
Thinking about a small town and its attendant sweet nothings I had dubbed the world
Gifted me a primer on
Pre-rehearsed conversations and a new élan
Propelling me from duties filled into
The nostalgia builder's ageless guild
Yes this rose-lined retrospection may be revising my own history,
But I hold it self-evident that you at least cared enough to trample me
And your crimes - for which your attentive ear may be only an organ of redress -
Goddamn, at least they gave some meaning to this loneliness
And I have never been in love
But I swear I'm falling for this moment
Tripping in the underbrush
Of our loose ends, nicely singed
I'm thinking of home
Where wet rag covered my face
But I learned, I learned, I learned to like the taste
Took two to imagine
That there could be something like
A real time designation of glory days
I only knew them when you were gone away

Don’t drive me to my car I’d rather walk myself
You’ve done enough (to me)
I often wondered if you’d watched me through your door
I don’t care no more
Life is such a blur
I bet you could’ve seen the moon for miles
From where we’re standing now
On that night
I wish I could go back
It used to be so bright
Funny how a thing could change almost overnight
So dark
You used to wonder if I was on your side
If I cared if you lived or died
If you knew - If you saw -
(I can’t let go)
If you’d seen the truth
I wonder what you would do

Mandatory America

Saint Valentine's massacre. 2018
I heard the bullets rip through flesh past the Neilsen's silver screen
The bozos with bazookas took their place amongst the dead
Alongside the visions of sugar plums locked up in my head
So the varsity team sang the alma mater loud and clear
"We need stricter thoughts and prayers to keep this from happening here."
Oh Lord, why have you forsaken all of us in Mandatory America
Seems we would do well to let the sleeping gods lie where they may
The oracle's been signaled but our lady's been forestalled
Resigned to scrubbing peni off the nation's bathroom stalls
And the next year's harvest is sure to put this one to shame
So we'll mourn its victims and do our dance to pray for rain
Oh Lord, why have you forsaken all of us in Mandatory America
Saint Valentine's ultrasound, at only 19
That little chalk outline would become somebody
To not a special miracle, visitor from another star
But another tributary on the doorstep of the old guard
Left to wander the outer limits of a landscape occupied
It’s a short walk from California to Palestine
Oh Lord we missed the last ride out of Mandatory America

So, it’s time to go
I hope that you’re safe when you’re sleeping tonight all alone
How could I have thought?
Someone like me and someone like you could get on
Empty?
What do you mean?
You can’t fill what’s gone, that’s what you need that's the key
Suddenly I realize
What I desire lies nowhere at all where you lie
I found myself, I only wanted out
I never wanted this, I only wanted out
Free
Some might say
But I know the truth you’re not free you’re in disparity
Finally after you’re gone
The world seems so big but at the same time, far too small
I found myself , I never wanted out
I only wanted this, I never wanted out
I found myself, I only wanted out
I never wanted this, I only wanted out
